So Long Sweet Summer…

I am a self proclaimed Summer Girl.  I love the beach, getting a tan, my hair getting blonder, ice mocha lattes and sun dresses.  Days lounging by the pool with a cold beer in hand and nights spent outside with friends.   However, one of the very best things about living in NJ is getting to experience all four seasons.  And although summer is my favorite, there are things I love about each and every season.  I’ve found myself really excited to welcome the Fall this year and here are a few reasons why:

  • Pumpkin Spice Latte’s:  After spending all summer sipping on iced coffee, I always look forward to my first hot Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season.  On a chilly night, holding a hot cup of coffee and having some good conversation with my girlfriends is one of my very favorite things to do.
  • Uggs & other Fall Fashion:  I have a weakness… and that weakness is sweater dresses, leggings and Uggs.  Can you name a more comfortably cute outfit?  And Fall is the perfect time to rock this look.
  • Fabulous Foaliage: I went to college in the south and while the palm trees were beautiful I missed watching the leaves change colors so much.  Especially driving up to my families in NY or Connecticut, the colors can just take your breath away.
  • Beautiul Weather:  Especially lately the weather is just absolutely gorgeous.  During the day it’s perfect sweater weather and at night you only need a light jacket to stay warm.  The humidity of the summer is gone and the frigid cold of winter is not yet upon us.. it’s perfect.
  • Fall Air:  In the fall, there is a crispness to the air that reminds be of being a kid again.  It reminds me of hay rides and pumpkin patches and running through my neighborhood on Halloween.  It reminds me of the ice skating rink opening again and the many nights I spent with that cold crisp air whipping across my face during practice.
  • Fall TV:  It’s no secret, I can be quite the couch potato.  This Fall the shows I’m commited to are: Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, The Office and I think Private Practice (saw it for the first time on Wednesday and loved it), I feel like my love affair with Grey’s is over, sadly.  Is there anything else I should be watching?!  Let me know. 😉
  • Fall Holidays! Halloween & Thanksgiving:  Halloween is just always so much fun.  Hayrides, pumpkin picking, haunted houses (even though I am such a scared little baby!), and dressing up for costume parties.  Then in November, we get Thanksgiving.  I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this but… I love to eat.. a lot.  But really, I also don’t get to see my whole family that often except for the major holidays so Thanksgiving is always exciting.

Are you guys enjoying your fall?  Do you have a favorite part of this season?

Side note: thank you all so so much for the comments on the last post.  You guys are really amazing and I appreciate your positive words, and feedback so very much!!  I can never decide how to respond to comments but I like when other bloggers answer everyone’s comments by posting a new comment on their own entry so that’s what I’m going to start doing (or rather, I started on the last post)

The worst part of living in Texas is the lack of seasons. This last post you wrote just made me feel so happy and filled with memories of Fall!! I love Fall air. My favorite day of the year is always the one where I walk out in the morning and smell Fall for the first time. People from the south don’t always know what I mean by that, and I completely related to your thoughts on that! Thank you for reminding me of my favorite day! I got to live it through your blog since I’ll be missing it this year in Texas!!

  3. I love watching the leaves change color, the crisp air in the morning and evening, piles of leaves in the yard, wearing scarves, mittens and hats, fires in the fireplace, hot chocolate w/marshmallows, soups w/fresh made french bread, and the smell of wood burning.
I love fall, but not a big fan of winter or snow.

  4. Fall in California is an odd thing, as it rather depends on where you are in the state, given it’s size. Down here in the south, we’re still undergoing the late season September/October heat wave. When I lived in Northern California, the crisp nights were already starting. Still, even here in LA, the trees are starting to change. Usually at some point on a hike, I’ll feel a wind that feels different than the summer breeze, and I’ll know the season is changing…

I LOVE Fall. I love jeans and hooded sweatshirts. Being a young professional I can get out my fall/winter suits and boots which are some of my favorite outfits. I love having my windows open, no a/c or heat on for weeks at a time. I love the crunch of leaves beneath my feet. I love the fact that Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Tailgating at least once at my alma mater, enjoying beer and hot dogs in 60 degree weather and cheering on the football team. Oh, and the tv line-ups are always fun, too. I’m right there with ya, LittleMiss.

I love having my four seasons too. I’m sure I’ll be singing a different tune when it ices two inces, then snows four, and then ices some more, but maybe, just maybe I’ll get a few snow days from work? 🙂

  6. I’m all for fall TV and movies too and I’m more than looking forward to Uggs and my favorite weekend outfit with them, jeans and my fleece jacket.

Pumpkin spice lattes, absolutely. Candy corn, Gossip Girl, Halloween, ghost stories, October baseball, and lots and lots of boots.

Also, your summer girl description makes me think we might be twins.

  8. My favorite thing about the changing of the seasons is the Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks. That, to me, signifies that it’s no longer summer.

Plus the fact that my toes turn blue if I continue wearing my flip flops.

  9. Krys – Fall definitely has a smell and I’m so glad this post reminded you of your favorite day!

Monkey Girl – Love all the Fall things you listed, especially hot chocolate and piles of leaves in the yard!

Geekhiker – Do you really feel like you get a Fall in LA? I know that when I lived in SC I kind of felt like Summer became Winter with little time in between.

Laylou – I know exactly what you mean… I do love the snow but HATE driving in it and hate waiting for my car to defrost in the morning… but I still have plenty of things I like about winter. 🙂

Jessica – Oh yea, Uggs jeans and a fleece – so cozy. 🙂

Kim – Candy corn – check, Gossip Girl – check… maybe we are twins. 😉

Catherinette – Oh yea the peppermint mocha is goood! And I try to continue to wear flip flops for as long as possible. heh
